Global in the Community
Global Public Affairs is dedicated to contributing to the communities in which we work, live and play. Our staff collectively participates in many charity events and individually champion worthwhile causes held close on a personal level.
Hunger happens all year round. That is why Global Public Affairs has decided to partner with the Ottawa Food Bank, the Daily Bread in Toronto and the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, during the Christmas holidays, but also in the summer when support is often scarce.
Upcoming Events
-
The week of May 5 2008, the Ottawa and Toronto offices will be running a food drive, Pile Up the Pasta Dinner, benefiting their respective Food Banks. The idea is to bring in ingredients required for a pasta dinner (boxes of pasta/canned sauce, vegetables, tuna). In our communications with the Food Banks, they mentioned that while they are typically inundated with food donations during the Christmas season, they are running dry by the time the spring/summer rolls around.
The Ottawa and Toronto food drives will culminate with Lunch Money Day on Thursday May 8. Global staff will brown bag their lunch that day (gathering to eat together and catch up) and then donate back the money they would have spent buying lunch.
Calgary will be organizing a similar food drive the following week of May 12 2008. They will be holding an Lunch & Learn session on Monday May 12 and then their food drive will continue for the remainder of that week.
Global’s Ottawa office will be participating in the 10th Anniversary Do It For Dad charity race on Father’s Day (June 15 2008) benefiting prostate cancer research. Global’s George Christidis is contributing as a member of the race’s Cabinet responsible for the Team Captain Challenge and Global staff will be entering a team (or two!) for the race.
Global’s staff in Ottawa look forward to participating in the upcoming Evening in the Maritimes event on May 22 2008. With proceeds going to Citizen Advocacy, a United Way agency benefiting people with disabilities, the evening promises to be a ton of fun – and all for a good cause.
